Location: PSAC, JK Wyllie Room, Ground Floor
A light meal will be provided.
This evening session will cover the spectrum of the privatization of public sector work, including contracting out, private-public partnerships (P3s), temporary help agency use, and complete privatization (off-loading). We will explore actual examples of privatization, and examples of governments bringing services back into the public sector. We will discuss ways to identify impending attempts at privatization, and ways to prevent privatization before it occurs. A social justice lens will be used to examine the motivations for, and the outcomes of privatization. The impacts that privatization has on increasing precarity in employment in Canada will also be discussed.
This workshop is open to all PSAC members, and to the general public. Registration is free but compulsory.
