What are your current role(s) in the union? Where do you work/what do you do?

I’ve been involved with the union since the time we was voted for one back in 2011. I am currently VP for front services at the Hard Rock Casino, and a shop steward in my local.

When did you first get involved in the union?

I was a member of the bargaining team for the last two contract negotiations. We just recently signed a four year deal with the new operator at Rideau Carleton which is HardRock International.

What is the most exciting or rewarding experience (s) about being involved in the union?

I’d have to say that was my single most rewarding experience so far as the membership voted overwhelmingly to accept the employers final offer. I’ve received many congratulatory comments for our efforts in negotiating that deal.

I’ve been a member of the valet team since I started working at RCRC in February of 2000. I enjoy working outside under little supervision and away from the hustle and bustle of the gaming floor.

What was the most important achievement you’ve been a part of? Or goals you’d like to meet?

What I would like to see in the future is more employee involvement in the union, especially more shop stewards. I think that is the biggest challenge we face as an executive.

What would you say to others who are thinking about getting involved?

I would say to anyone who is thinking about getting involved with the union that it can be a very rewarding experience helping a coworker deal with any issues that might arise in the workplace.
