Join the Racialized Members Action Committee to mark Emancipation Day

August 14, 2025, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Zoom

Emancipation Day has been celebrated every August 1 in Black communities in Canada since the 1850s. But in 2021, Members of Parliament voted unanimously to designate August 1 as the official date to recognize Emancipation Day nationally.

Emancipation Day is not just about celebrating the abolition of slavery – it’s also about pausing and reflecting on what it took to reach Emancipation Day.

This month, the PSAC-NCR Racialized Members Action Committee invites you to join us for a virtual Emancipation Day celebration on August 14, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m

The evening will feature spoken word, music, documentary storytelling and space for reflection. Guided by the theme “Remembering the Past, Embracing the Future,” this event is an opportunity to learn from history while strengthening our collective resolve to build a just and equitable future for all workers.

Participation is open to all.

Join us as we celebrate resilience, resistance, and the power of solidarity.
