Bank of Canada Security Officers Set for Strike as PSAC Serves Notice

Ottawa, June 18, 2026 – The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) has given notice that strike action will commence for the bargaining units representing Security Officers at the Bank of Canada in Ottawa and Montreal.

Unless a negotiated agreement is reached prior to that time, job action will begin on June 23, 2026, at 00:01 EDT.

This action follows ongoing bargaining efforts in which the parties have been unable to reach sufficient progress on key issues affecting members, including wages, working conditions, and workplace protections. Earlier this month, members voted 100% in favour of strike action.

“Security Officers at the Bank of Canada perform critical work to protect national financial infrastructure, yet their concerns continue to be met with inadequate movement at the bargaining table,” said Ruth Lau MacDonald, Regional Executive Vice-President of PSAC, in response to the strike notice. “The employer has proposed major concessions, including changes to the scheduling system that would negatively impact how seniority is implemented when it comes to overtime and vacation. They also want to reduce the Maternity Leave top-up by a week, which is a non-starter.”

The union emphasizes that its members do not take job action lightly and remain committed to achieving a fair and reasonable collective agreement that avoids disruption while addressing the concerns of frontline security officers responsible for safeguarding federal assets and facilities.

Our members remain committed to reaching a negotiated settlement, but they are prepared to take action to secure a fair deal. Further updates will be provided as negotiations continue or as job action proceeds.
