Description
New Local Officers – who have been an executive officer for less than one year – will develop the knowledge, skills and the confidence in order to provide an effective union leadership in their workplace. Participants will learn more about the responsibilities and the work of the Local; know how to implement strategies to increase member participation in the life of their union and increase their familiarity to union structures, decision-making and how these connect to the Local.
Who is this training for?
This training is intended only for Local elected officers who has been elected during the last 3 years.
Time commitment
This is an in-residence course on three consecutive days.
Objectives
- How to Develop Local Priorities
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of executive members and allocate tasks
- Identify the rights that union members have in their workplace
- Learn more about the collective agreement and how to use the rights specified
- Know the importance of collective bargaining and how to involve the local in the bargaining process
- Develop knowledge of the grievance process and what are the steps in this process
This training will be bilingual with interpretation. The training will be held at Penthouse A/B room, on the 17th floor, at Sheraton Hotel, Ottawa, ON, K1P 5G2.
