Call to Action: 10 Years of Phoenix Pay Chaos – Enough is Enough!
February 24th
Fellow members, this February marks the grim 10-year anniversary of the Phoenix pay system scandal – a decade of unrelenting hardship that has devastated countless lives across our ranks. Launched in 2016 with promises of efficiency, Phoenix instead unleashed a nightmare of payroll errors: underpayments leaving families struggling to pay bills, overpayments clawing back hard-earned wages without warning, and endless delays trapping workers in financial limbo.
It’s not just numbers on a paycheck – it’s real people, our colleagues, who have felt the impact of government inaction.
PSAC NCR is mobilizing with two powerful plant gates on February 24th to amplify our voices and push for accountability:
- Plant Gate Portage: 12 pm – 1 pm at 200 rue Portage (South East corner of Laurier and Laval)
- Plant Gate Constitutional Square: 12 pm – 1 pm at 150 Kent St. (South East corner of Kent St. and Albert St.)
A plant gate is a common union organizing and protest tactic. It refers to a gathering or demonstration held at the entrance(s) — the “gate” — of a workplace, factory, office building, or government facility. Union members and supporters stand outside during shift changes, lunch breaks, or other high-traffic times to hand out flyers, talk to workers and build solidarity and visibility.
Join us to stand in solidarity, share stories, and show that we’re united against this ongoing injustice. Bring your signs, your energy, and your resolve!
Want to spread the word in your workplace? Members can request free materials like stickers and flyers to post in offices. Come on down to the regional office during your lunch or email us at revp.ncr-vper.rcn@psac-afpc.com for more information.
Let’s turn outrage into action. See you on the 24th!
In solidarity,
Ruth Lau MacDonald
Regional Executive Vice-President
