Justice for Migrant Workers is urging your solidarity this Friday morning (January 17, 2025) starting at 8:30 AM ET.
We are asking people to attend an upcoming court appearance for an employer who is now facing additional criminal charges. The employer Canpolat Sahin is facing the following criminal charges: sexual assault (two charges) and forcible confinement. The court appearance will be on Zoom. Although it is not a formal hearing, it is important for people to attend and show the employer we are watching.
Sahin owns Polat Construction, which owes a group of temporary foreign workers over $130,000 in wages and damages. Recently the federal government fined Polat Construction $161,000 and banned the employer from hiring temporary foreign workers for a period of 5 years.
When the meeting, we ask that you change the name on your screen to ‘Observer’ in the waiting room. Once admitted to the room, and only if Canpolat Sahin is in the room, we ask that you change your name to one of the following messages:
- Justice for the Polat 4
- No to Bad Bosses
- Sahin, Pay your workers
- Solidarity with the Polat 4
- End Worker Exploitation Now
Since it is a case management court and many other people will be there, Sahin may show up later. Please do not change your name until you see him in the room, as we may be asked to leave the Zoom and do not want to do so prematurely! The latest we expect to be in the Zoom is 11:00 am.
