Trans rights are human rights, and our support must be visible and unwavering.
Today, March 31st, we celebrate our trans, non-binary and gender-diverse members as an integral and beloved part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Your lives, your contributions, and your courage make our workplaces, our union, and our communities stronger.
“Our support must be visible, and it must be unwavering. The committee and I are here to support you, to defend you, and to ensure you are not standing alone. I ask all members to stand with us — to challenge discrimination, to speak up, and to show our communities the support they deserve.” – Lydia Picknell, PSAC-NCR Pride Committee Chair
Visibility also means being honest about the challenges trans people still face. Despite progress, trans and non-binary people in Canada continue to face significant inequalities in employment, income, and overall well-being. We cannot accept policies or actions that exclude, target, or harm trans people.
That’s why our union matters. We believe every worker deserves dignity, safety, and respect on the job. All workers have the right to bodily autonomy, to live free from violence and discrimination, and to build their lives in peace.
“I want our trans and non-binary members to know this clearly: you belong here. Our union is strongest when every member can show up fully and safely as themselves. We will continue to use every tool we have to defend your rights and push back against discrimination in all its forms.” – Ruth Lau MacDonald, PSAC-NCR Regional Executive Vice President
Through our collective agreements, our advocacy, and our solidarity with one another, we will continue to defend trans workers and fight for workplaces where everyone can show up as their full, authentic selves.
And to all our members and allies — solidarity means action. Speak up. Stand beside your coworkers. Challenge discrimination wherever it appears, from everyday comments to policies that seek to exclude and divide.
On Trans Day of Visibility and every day, PSAC-NCR stands proudly with the trans community.
