Participants that attend this course will successfully complete two modules from the Introductory Steward Series catalogue. This course is intended for first time stewards.
Why Unions?
By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
- Recognize and talk about how unions are good for workers and for broader society
- Know a little more about the labour movement and about the history of the PSAC
- Identify current trends and challenges for the labour movement and broader society
- Explore ways that the Steward can engage, and encourage members to engage, in broader labour, environmental and social justice issues.
Engagement & Equity – Anti-Oppression Framework
By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
- Develop and apply a framework for anti-oppressive practice in their own work
- Assess power, privilege, and oppression in the worksite
- Explain what an anti-oppressive practice is and how it contributes to an equitable and inclusive workplace
Participant Selection:

- Prioritize new stewards to encourage broader participation.
- Reflect the diversity of our membership to ensure inclusivity.
- Consider the date of registration if all other factors are equal.
