NCC not listed on federal government’s employee survey results – union wonders why…

OTTAWA – The federal government recently released the results of its first Public Service Employee Annual Survey and posted them online by department and agencies. The National Capital Commission is conspicuously missing in the list, and the union wants to know why.

“The survey provides us some indication of the general feeling and morale of public service employees in the workplace,” says Doug Marshall, the National President of Union of National Employees, a component of the Public Service Alliance of Canada.

“The fact that the survey results for the NCC is not posted on the government site makes us suspect that maybe the results confirm the discontent among the employees at the NCC. That discontent is partly due to the long and rocky contract negotiations.”

PSAC has been in bargaining with the NCC since February 2015. Their collective agreement expired on Dec. 21, 2014. Talks stalled recently over the NCC’s refusal to address issues raised by the union. PSAC has filed for conciliation and a bad-faith bargaining complaint against the employer to the Federal Public Sector Labour Relations and Employment Board.

The NCC Board of Directors will be meeting this Thursday and Friday at 40 Elgin St. The union local at the NCC will be handing out flyers at the same location starting at 8 a.m.

“Our members at the NCC plan on greeting the board members to voice their frustration over the employer’s refusal to listen to their concerns,” says Marshall.
