Open Letter on Senator Patrick Brazeau

The media has recently picked up on stories about Theresa Spence. Rather than maintaining the magnifying glass on the real issues of why she went on a liquid diet, the story is now about Senator Patrick Brazeau, Royal Galipeau and their statements. It is important to remember what the real story is. First Nations people have had stereotypes heaped on them since the first settlers arrived. It is time to put those stereotypes aside, truly listen to the concerns of the First Nations people and to give them the assistance they require. Treaties have to be respected, decent affordable housing should be available to all, clean drinking water should not be a luxury; these are the issues that need to be addressed and that we should not lose sight of.
