This past November, PSAC NCR’s Education committee hosted a 2-day retreat in Ottawa where members drafted a clear mandate for the regional Education program. The committee was tasked with reviewing survey results received by union members earlier in the year and creating a roadmap for education over the next 3-year cycle (2025-2027 inclusive). The Education Committee meets regularly to discuss union education needs, determines how the region should best respond to these needs and finds ways of engaging members through union education.
The Education committee’s work is led by a diverse group of leaders who are members of different components, regional committees, and careers. Components represented included:
- Canada Employment & Immigration Union (CEIU)
- Union of Safety and Justice Employees (USJE)
- Union of National Employees (UNE)
- Customs and Immigration Union (CIU)
- Union of Taxation Employees (UTE)
- Government Services Union (GSU)
Special guests included Ruth Lau MacDonald, Regional Executive Vice President (REVP) for the National Capital Region (NCR), and Elisabeth Woods, Assistant Director of the PSAC Regional Office Branch.
The members on the Education Committee remain dedicated and focused on ensuring that their work within the education space addresses member needs in the NCR. The committee is proud to support and advocate for member education and looks forward to rolling out member-to-member seminars in the coming months.
